【阿濃專欄】查一查Weird

網上資料說，從7月23日到8月3日，賀錦麗競選總部的X帳號，在14篇推文中用Weird形容特朗普和萬斯。不妨到字典上查一查這字的含義：

古怪的、奇異的、不可思議的、怪誕的、荒唐的、荒謬的。Unusual & not sensible or acceptable. （《朗文當代英漢雙解詞典》）

鬼怪似的、怪誕的、神秘的。（陸谷孫編《英漢大詞典》）

非人世所有、不可思議的、奇異的、神秘、怪異、可怖。（梁實秋編《遠東英漢五用辭典》）

Strange , unusual, out of the ordinary, unearthy,  unnatural ,Uncanny （Canada Oxford Dictionary）

 Suggestive of or caused by supernatural, Very strange of bizarre（The Penguin Dictionary）

在詞典的定義中還出現了不少weird的同義詞和近義詞，網上英語學習連結Engoo，把它們依「奇怪」程度排列如下：

• bizarre：極度奇怪，負面，有時你會因為這種怪異感到緊張或害怕。
• weird：非常奇怪，負面，偶爾也會使你不自在，但程度比 bizarre 弱。
• strange：奇怪、不尋常的，會引起你注意，負面程度較輕微。
• peculiar：不尋常的，有時含有負面意涵。
• eccentric：不尋常的，有時帶點有趣的意涵。
• odd：不尋常的，不含有負面意涵，不尋常的程度更弱。

特朗普對於被定性為Weild當然不高興，他說 “They’re the weird ones. Nobody’s ever called me weird. I’m a lot of things, but weird I’m not,”

他又說，”We’re very solid people. We want to have strong borders, we want to have good elections, we want low interest rates, we want to be able to buy a house.”

“I think we’re the opposite of weird, they’re weird.”
